From the comments:
So a moderately thoughtful gift from a lesbian gets ... what? Noogies?
And I apologize for not sharing with the wider public how freakin' awesome Jane's birthday gift was -- and, coincidentally, it was also an art book of sorts. Plus, it was the gift obtained at the American Psychiatric Association annual meeting that I'd blogged about before.

Jane got me The Pop-Up Book of Phobias. It includes such amazing illustrations as a claustrophobia page that you cannot open all the way, a plane pop-up that makes it very clear you are about to meet your doom, and some seriously terrifying clowns, snakes, spiders and dentists. It's freakin' awesome.

This is something I've been crowing about to individuals, not to the greater internet-reader public. I hope Jane forgives the oversights.

Besides, Jane, there's no confusion about possible roles and responses to a gift. You're married, so you're not interested. But you hire me, so you know I'd put out.
